The BE Project | Melissa and “Wildflower”
Every year, The BE Project invites women into my studio to pause, reflect, and choose a word that will guide the next chapter of their lives. It is not about perfection or reinvention overnight. It is about honesty. Courage. Becoming.
When Melissa stepped in front of my camera, she carried her word with intention: “Wildflower.” What followed was a conversation about softness, strength, safety, and the beauty of letting yourself bloom right where you are planted.
The BE Project exists because I believe that we are all evolving and every person deserves to see themselves as art while they are becoming the person they are meant to be.
Why She Chose “Wildflower”
To Melissa, wild does not mean reckless or unrooted. It means whimsical and grounded at the same time. It means choosing growth with care. Being planted. Being protected. Letting herself bloom instead of shrinking back.
She spoke about the version of herself that had always existed, kind, curious, quietly powerful, but who had been muted for too long. This year is about releasing that restraint and allowing the real her to rise.
“Wildflower is not wandering. It is choosing to grow.”
What She Is Working Toward This Year
Melissa is leaning into becoming softer with herself. Creating spaces where she can breathe. Choosing relationships and rhythms that feel safe. Allowing joy to arrive without guilt.
This season is not about forcing transformation. It is about trusting that growth happens when you stop standing in your own way.
What Grounds Her
When asked what brings her calm, Melissa smiled.
A good hug.
Not extravagance. Not escape. Just safety. The freedom to unmask. To be messy and human and held.
Sometimes peace is quiet.
Sometimes it is arms wrapped around you reminding you that you belong.
What She Is Learning About Herself
Melissa is discovering that protecting her peace is an act of courage. That softness is not weakness. That slowing down does not mean losing momentum.
It means choosing herself.
Photographing “Wildflower”
Through my lens, Melissa embodied everything her word promised. Gentle but anchored. Open yet steady. There was a softness in her eyes and a strength in her posture that spoke louder than any pose ever could.
These are the moments that make The BE Project sacred to me.
A Final Reflection
Melissa’s story is proof that becoming does not have to be loud to be powerful. Sometimes the bravest thing we do is stop hiding the parts of ourselves that were always meant to grow.
What word would you choose for this season of your life?
What are you stepping into this year?
