The BE Project | Jill and “Growth”

Every year, The BE Project invites people into my studio to pause, reflect, and choose a word that will guide the next chapter of their lives. It is not about perfection or reinvention overnight. It is about honesty. Courage. Becoming.

When Jill stepped in front of my camera, her eyes softened.

“Growth.”

A word born from motherhood shifting, children launching, and learning how to fill new quiet spaces in her life.

The BE Project exists because I believe that we are all evolving and every person deserves to see themselves as art while they are becoming the person they are meant to be.

Why She Chose “Growth”

Jill shared that her daughter left for college two years ago and now her son is preparing to graduate.

Life is changing quickly.

Gyms that once held basketball games and bleachers full of noise are giving way to silence she is still learning how to navigate.

Growth, for Jill, is personal.

It is grief and possibility sitting side by side.

“I’m really struggling with this transition.”

What She Is Working Toward This Year

Jill is trying new hobbies.

Painting.

Adult paint-by-numbers kits.

Puzzles.

Monthly project subscriptions that invite her to explore something new.

She is experimenting with what fills her now.

What Grounds Her

One of Jill’s greatest anchors is her wife.

A safe place.

A steady presence.

Someone she trusts deeply while she learns how to navigate this new season.

What She Is Learning About Herself

Jill is proud of something very specific.

She recognized she was struggling.

She sought therapy.

She named the hard thing instead of pretending it was not there.

That awareness feels like the bravest step of all.

Photographing “Growth”

In the studio, growth looked tender.

Open.

Honest.

A woman standing at the edge of a new chapter and choosing to walk into it anyway.

Her portraits carried vulnerability and quiet courage.

A Final Reflection

Jill’s story is proof that growth is not always loud or celebratory.

Sometimes it is simply staying.

Trying.

Beginning again.

What word would you choose for this season of your life?
What are you stepping into this year?

The BE Project is a black-and-white portrait series by Beautiful Evolutions Photography honoring growth, courage, and the beauty of becoming.

The BE Project with Beautiful Evolutions Photography

The BE Project was created in 2016.  Two crazy girls had an idea and it came to life on a napkin at lunch one day. They partnered with a local jeweler, Woolards Custom Jewelry and a beautiful necklace was created.  What began as a marketing campaign turned in to an annual photo project that has allowed people to share a word that is important to them and why that word guides them.  Each year, in January, the project opens back up for registrations.  One week is dedicated to photographing the incredible people that want to join us.  All images are black and white to keep from any distractions.  Just the human and their word.

Head over to THE BE Project page read some of the incredible stories that have been shared with us.
