The 2024 BE Project – In a world where you can BE anything, what will you choose?
Strength is the word I chose because I was diagnosed with cancer in my appendix last November. The fight essentially begins, so strength is what I’ve chosen to hone in. I’m reading the bible every day. I’m diving back into that because I know that that’s a strength for me. Iwas raised that way.
Meet Amanda and Her Personal Reflections
I was brought up in a very religious household. I kind of went away from that when i got on my own and so i’ve dived right back in. I’m reading the bible every day like i’m diving back into that because i know that that’s a strength for me. I know that my strength also comes from my family i mean, my mother is like, we’re not talking about this. We don’t have cancer. We’re not bringing it in the house.
The doctor won’t even say the word cancer when she’s in the room because she’s like, we’re not saying it. I’m like, it’s here. But she’s like, yeah, but we’re not.
If you could go back and talk to yourself a two years ago, what would you say?
You’re about to be in the fight of your life. That day when I went in sick to the hospital, I knew something wasn’t right. The catscan guy was talking and I walked back in and I knew, I have cancer. Like, I knew from that minute. I don’t know if God told me. I don’t know if I’ve always felt like it was gonna happen to me at some point but I think because I’m medical too I don’t know if we just project it onto us. I feel like if it was going to happen, I was in the best place. Like, marriage-wise and family-wise.
