The BE Project | Andrea and “Engaged”

Every year, The BE Project invites women into my studio to pause, reflect, and choose a word that will guide the next chapter of their lives. It is not about perfection or reinvention overnight. It is about honesty. Courage. Becoming.

When Andrea stepped in front of my camera, she carried her word with intention: “Engaged.” Not in the way people first assume, but in the way that speaks to presence, commitment, and staying fully in her life while she builds what comes next.

The BE Project exists because I believe that we are all evolving and every person deserves to see themselves as art while they are becoming the person they are meant to be.

Why She Chose “Engaged”

Andrea smiled when she explained her word. It was not about a ring. It was about being engaged in more. More awareness. More intention. More participation in the life she is creating.

She shared that in the long run, her goal is to make a major move and start a new chapter somewhere else entirely. Three to five years down the road, she hopes to close one chapter and open another. But in the meantime, she is choosing to stay fully present instead of drifting through the waiting.

“I’m just going to stay engaged until I figure the other stuff out.”

Her word is about refusing to go numb in the in-between.

What She Is Working Toward This Year

Andrea is focused on leveling up professionally. Learning how to navigate work with more confidence. Playing the game smarter. Advocating for herself in spaces where growth requires courage.

This year is about sharpening her instincts and trusting that she belongs exactly where she is while she builds toward what is next.

What Grounds Her

Andrea spoke candidly about something deeply personal, a recurrence of trigeminal neuralgia after previously undergoing brain surgery. Instead of letting fear or frustration consume her, she chose resilience.

She talked about taking it in stride. About deciding not to let pain define her or derail her life. About moving forward anyway.

It was one of those moments in conversation where strength does not sound dramatic. It sounds steady.

What She Is Learning About Herself

Through everything she has faced, Andrea is learning that she is tougher than she once realized. That hardship does not get to make her smaller. That she can keep going without letting darkness take the wheel.

She is discovering that courage sometimes looks like showing up again the next day and refusing to let circumstance decide who you become.

Photographing “Engaged”

Photographing Andrea felt like watching someone quietly claim her own space. There was resolve in the way she held herself. A calm determination behind her eyes.

Engaged showed up as presence. As grounded confidence. As someone standing firmly in the life she is building while keeping her eyes on the horizon.

A Final Reflection

Andrea’s story is a reminder that waiting seasons do not have to be passive ones. You can be planning your future while staying rooted in your present.

You can be healing and still ambitious.

You can be engaged in becoming.

What word would you choose for this season of your life?
What are you stepping into this year?

The BE Project is a black-and-white portrait series by Beautiful Evolutions Photography honoring growth, courage, and the beauty of becoming.

The BE Project with Beautiful Evolutions Photography

The BE Project was created in 2016.  Two crazy girls had an idea and it came to life on a napkin at lunch one day. They partnered with a local jeweler, Woolards Custom Jewelry and a beautiful necklace was created.  What began as a marketing campaign turned in to an annual photo project that has allowed people to share a word that is important to them and why that word guides them.  Each year, in January, the project opens back up for registrations.  One week is dedicated to photographing the incredible people that want to join us.  All images are black and white to keep from any distractions.  Just the human and their word.
