The BE Project | Mieko and “Intentional”
Every year, The BE Project invites people into my studio to pause, reflect, and choose a word that will guide the next chapter of their lives. It is not about perfection or reinvention overnight. It is about honesty. Courage. Becoming.
When Mieko stepped in front of my camera, she spoke with focus and clarity about her word for the year: “Intentional.” It came from a deep desire to grow her business thoughtfully and with purpose, not by throwing things at the wall and hoping something sticks
The BE Project exists because I believe that we are all evolving and every person deserves to see themselves as art while they are becoming the person they are meant to be.
Why She Chose “Intentional”
For Mieko, intentionality means doing things on purpose. Knowing her numbers. Creating plans. Being selective with where her energy goes instead of trying to do everything at once.
She talked about wanting to grow her extension business, earn more, and become the very best at what she does, while also being deliberate about education and faith, including reading the Bible as part of her daily rhythm.
“I need to make sure that everything I am doing has a purpose behind it.”
What She Is Working Toward This Year
When asked about big dreams for the year, Mieko was refreshingly honest. Right now, her focus is singular.
Getting better.
She shared that her mind is almost entirely on her business, refining her craft, and pushing herself to grow stronger professionally rather than chasing one major milestone or trip.
This is a season of sharpening skills and building something sustainable.
What Grounds Her
Mieko finds calm in simple, everyday moments. Laying in bed. Watching television. Letting herself decompress after long days.
She also mentioned picking up a book from a client that has helped her feel closer to God and quieter in her spirit, a small habit that has made a meaningful impact on how she resets and recenters.
What She Is Learning About Herself
Mieko shared that she is proud of recent lifestyle changes, especially cutting back on soda as part of her ongoing health journey.
It is one more way she is practicing intention, not only in business, but in how she cares for herself.
She is learning that discipline can be gentle.
That small choices compound.
That progress does not have to be dramatic to be powerful.
Photographing “Intentional”
In the studio, intentional showed up in Mieko’s calm confidence. Focused. Centered. Clear.
There was a steadiness in her presence, the kind that belongs to someone who knows where she is headed, even if the road there is still unfolding.
Her portraits carried quiet determination and a sense of forward motion.
A Final Reflection
Mieko’s story reminds us that becoming is often built in the smallest decisions.
In the plans we make.
The habits we change.
The moments we choose to slow down and realign.
What word would you choose for this season of your life?
What are you stepping into this year?
