The BE Project – In a world where you can be anything…. what will you be?

Seth… there are so many ways I’m sure you could describe Seth.  Tall is obviously one of them if you have ever met him i person.  However, there really is so much more to him and every time I get the opportunity to visit with him, my heart just gets happier.  He’s always dressed sharp, he has a wonderful smile that makes me smile and he has one of the kindest hearts. Read on to learn a little bit about this guy!

What word did you choose and why?

Seth chose the word Resilient.

“I think it fits me better than ANY other word on the planet. I think it’s perfect because of my ability to bounce back and recover and that is the definition of it.”  Seth has faced a lot and has had a bit of a bumpy road, so I asked how he was today.  “Fantastic!   I chose to change my life and it was the very best thing I ever could have done.”  April 1 will be 2 years since Seth has made life changes.  I asked where he finds his strength to continue down a path of a better life for himself. “It was easier once I got started, every day is challenge, however, I don’t ever want to go back to that place.”

What would you tell Seth as a little boy?

Man, don’t do it, its not cool.

What would you tell Seth 10 years ago?

“It’s a long road.”

What do you hope life looks like in a few years?

“That’s tough because of my dad.  He is deteriorating quickly and it’s tough to think about what life looks like in a few years without him here.  I am lucky that I get to live with him and my mom now – so I get the opportunity to make memories now. If I hadn’t gotten my life turned around, I’m not sure I would have been able to forgive myself for missing out.”

Seth – It is an absolute honor to watch you grow and evolve into the man you are becoming.  I know you have a million people that are cheering you on – but you have one more over here.  I’m blessed that I’ve gotten to photograph you a few times and I get to see a beautiful version of you.  Thank you for being vulnerable and share your heart with me.

What is The BE Project?

Have you ever stopped to think about who or what you want to be?  Most often there is a word that drives you.  If you sit in the silence and really think about what type of person you want to be… there will be a word, sometimes more than one word, that will guide you along and push you to keep being a better version of yourself.  This photo project has become something that has touched my heart and hopefully those that have participated. I chose to shoot all of the images in black and white because I wanted the least amount of distractions.  Just the human and the word.   This project is the stories of some amazing people, their stories, and what these words mean to them.  Some have participated each of the 3 years we have done this, some are new each time.  It’s an amazing honor to follow along in their journey and document who they are becoming.

Want to read more stories from others in our community and their BE words?  Head over to the BE Project Page and read the stories of the amazing humans that have participated.

I challenge you to find a word that resonates with you.  Who do you want to strive to be?  What word leads you day to day?  Join us in our project – what word will describe who you want to BE?

The BE Project with Beautiful Evolutions Photography

The BE Project was created in 2016.  Two crazy girls had an idea and it came to life on a napkin at lunch one day. They partnered with a local jeweler, Woolards Custom Jewelry and a beautiful necklace was created.  What began as a marketing campaign turned in to an annual photo project that has allowed people to share a word that is important to them and why that word guides them.  Each year, in January, the project opens back up for registrations.  One week is dedicated to photographing the incredible people that want to join us.  All images are black and white to keep from any distractions.  Just the human and their word.
