The BE Project – In a world where you can be anything…. What will you be?
Meet Yvonne – her word for the 2023 BE Project is Confidence
What word did you choose and why?
Confidence
I chose the word confidence. I came out of an abusive relationship, at the end of which I was falsely accused as the aggressor and arrested in the emergency room. I felt silenced, marginalized, and dismissed. I will not feel that way any longer. I am building my confidence, and diligently using my voice to share my story so that it might resonate with others experiencing the same things. I am finding my confidence by working with a wonderful therapist, surrounding myself with an incredible community, and through self-expression.
In building a community with other survivors I’ve found that there is a language we can speak with each other that helps to break the cycle of shame and embarrassment so many of us feel stuck in. I didn’t choose this story, but I will use every bit of it to empower and encourage others who need a little help to recognize what is happening, step into their power and get out.
If you could talk to a younger version of yourself, what would you tell her?
If I could talk to younger Yvonne, I’d tell her you are enough. You have always been enough. Use your voice, take up space, and don’t let anyone diminish your light.
