The BE Project – In a world where you can be anything…. What will you be?
Meet Amber – her word for the 2023 BE Project is Ambition
What word did you choose and why?
Ambition
I chose the word Ambition. I have goals that I’m reaching for that younger me didn’t even know would ever be possible. By leaning into that ambition, I am bettering my circumstances one step at a time.
This year I chose the word Ambition. I am three years sober. It has been a long, hard-fought battle to get here. It has humbled me in every way, and now here I am, working to accomplish goals that younger me never thought I’d even have the chance to reach for. I’m now working in a facility that helps our youth who are struggling with some of the same traumas and experiences that I endured, and I’m finding the strength to share parts of my story in ways that can be impactful and beneficial to others. I am a mother working toward provision and consistency for my children, and learning how to set boundaries in my life as I create that. That ambition is really what is driving me this year.
If you could go back and talk to a younger version of yourself, what would you say?
If I could go back and speak to a younger version of Amber, I’d tell her to love herself. I’d tell her that she is worthy of love and that she doesn’t have to seek validation from others, and that the opinions of others just don’t matter. I’d encourage her to be more patient, and to change some of the choices she was making. The journey to loving myself has been really hard, but I’ve overcome so much. And I’m getting better at it.
