The BE Project | Alex and “Change”
Every year, The BE Project invites people into my studio to pause, reflect, and choose a word that will guide the next chapter of their lives. It is not about perfection or reinvention overnight. It is about honesty. Courage. Becoming.
When Alex shared his word, it came with clarity.
“Change.”
Not for business.
For himself.
The BE Project exists because I believe that we are all evolving and every person deserves to see themselves as art while they are becoming the person they are meant to be.
Why He Chose “Change”
For years, Alex has focused on taking care of everyone else.
Making sure others are secure.
Supported.
Handled.
This year is different.
This year is about making bigger personal changes.
Last year brought colon cancer.
Diagnosis.
Surgery.
Recovery.
Back to work quickly.
Clean scans.
Gratitude.
That kind of wake-up call shifts perspective.
What He Is Working Toward This Year
Alex wants to be in the best shape of his life by the time he turns 50.
Off medication.
At a sustainable weight.
Strong enough to hike mountains with his wife and build toward their dream of eventually retiring seasonally in the mountains.
He is also stepping into public speaking, signing up to instruct at a statewide class, forcing himself to prepare, lead, and stretch.
Change is active.
Not passive.
What Grounds Him
Gratitude.
A clean scan.
A second chance.
His wife.
The future they are building together.
Health is no longer optional.
It is foundational.
What He Is Learning About Himself
Alex is realizing that resilience is not loud.
It is steady.
He returned to work.
He kept moving.
But underneath that strength is a deeper awareness.
Life is fragile.
And it is worth protecting.
Photographing “Change”
In the studio, change showed up as resolve.
A man who has faced something heavy and decided not to waste the lesson.
His portraits felt determined.
Forward-facing.
Hopeful.
A Final Reflection
Alex’s story reminds us that sometimes change is chosen.
Sometimes it is forced.
Either way, it can become transformation.
What word would you choose for this season of your life?
What are you stepping into this year?
