Coralee chooses Resilient
Why does the word Resilient resonate with you?
“My word chose me. Resilient is my word for this season. The last couple of years, I had to be resilient…actually, i’ve always had to be resilient. Sometimes life gives you yucky stuff that causes you to be resilient through it all. All the words speak to me but for now, this is the word that carries me through the day to day good and bad. This year I plan on working better at taking better care of me and healing.”
If you could give your kids one piece of advice that they carry with them throughout life… what would that be?
“For my daughter, I would tell her she needs to know she’s beautiful inside and out.. and own it. Don’t second guess what you can do. Just because you have a crazy idea doesn’t mean it is stupid, I might just be brilliant. Stay true to who you are. Never give up on who you are for someone else.
For my son, I would tell him to keep being kind. Don’t get distracted by “stuff”. Celebrate Tuesday. Make pie. Buy flowers on Tuesday and not just Valentine’s Day.”
If you could go back and tell 15 year old you anything… what would you say to her?
“A boy doesn’t define you. Don’t make choices that you may regret later. Don’t ever worry about being the only girl in the room.”

Why does the word Resilient resonate with you?
“As you hit your 30s you start acclimating to truly being an adult and finding success. Work can throw a lot of curve balls and it forces you to grow within yourself and within your career. Personally, my daughter has Autism so we have every day challenges that require me not giving up and pushing through. I originally thought the word Strong would be my word, but that didn’t seem to fit just right. With the every day emotions and the day to day struggles resilient just seems to describe who I am and who I want to be.”
If you could give your kids one piece of advice that they carry with them throughout life… what would that be?
“Remember you are unique. No matter what anyone else thinks of you or how they define you, you have the ability to become anything that you want.”

Why does the word Charismatic Resonate with you?
“When I was soul searching a few years ago, I asked for what words described me and someone said charisma. Charisma means influencing and attracting people to you. For me, that is great but I feel it’s also a spiritual gift. I want to make sure that I am influencing those around you and inspiring them to be better people.”
If you could give your kids one piece of advice that they carry with them throughout life… what would that be?
“Love yourself. Find someone that loves you for exactly who you are and that you can always be yourself with. Love unconditionally.”
If you could go back and tell 15 year old you anything… what would you say to her?
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s ok to be you. Mary Kay is going to teach you how to not be a wallflower and learn how to interact with people and learn who you are.”

Why does the word Intentional Resonate with you?
“I choose the word Intentional because everything that I focus on each day leads me to be just that. I want every day to be intentional in how I live. My intentionality in my friendships, what I do with my time, how I pursue my dreams, how I spend my money… I want all of these things to be intentional so I am creating a life I want to live. My life has become way more passionate, fun and purposeful because I am living to the core of who I really am.”

“No matter what, you are loved. Even when it doesn’t feel like it, you are still loved. You have the power to choose how you will respond to life.”

Once or twice a year we travel up to the Oklahoma City area to do a round of photo shoots. We have done boudoir, fitness and family while we have been there. A few months ago we headed up there and photographed another beautiful round of women. I was fortunate enough to photograph this super sweet family while we were there.
Shelbie is definitely the queen of her house and her boys know they need to keep momma happy. I had so much fun with them and we spent our time loving and laughing together.
One of my very favorite moments was at the very end. At the end of each family session I always give the kids some time to just be silly. They can make silly faces. They can dance it out. It’s their time to just be. I sent mom and dad off to go get changed back into comfy clothes and I asked Trenton what else he would like to do. He smiled real big and said he wanted to take a picture with me.
You guys… my heart melted. So you bet I flipped that camera around and just didn’t care if it was in focus or not.
As we walked back up to the house, he looked up at me and said “you are the best photographer ever”. Sweetest boy ever!! Thank you Shelbie for asking me to do your family pictures. It was absolutely an honor to document your family.
