The BE Project – In a world where you can be anything…. What will you be?

Meet Marisa – her word for the 2023 BE Project is Embrace

What word did you choose and why?

Embrace

I chose the word Embrace. I want to embrace the journey for what it is. I want to embrace the moments that feel chaotic. I want to embrace the moments that feel uncomfortable. I want to embrace the growth that comes with stepping outside of my comfort zone. I will embrace my journey, with every twist and turn that comes with it.

This year I chose the word embrace. This past year I’ve made a huge shift in my life, and left my teaching career for a completely new journey in real estate. I don’t think I realized how much I really loved the consistency I had at the time, but now I’m out of that comfort zone, and it has come with a lot of challenges. There is growth in the difficulties, and I’m thankful for that, and I aim to really embrace that. I see the greater purpose through this transition, of my coming back to myself and living a much happier and more genuine life. I’m embracing those feelings, too.

To put this word into action I am trying to focus more on what I can learn out of the hard situations and how I can grow from them instead of the uncomfortable feelings that arise with them. I felt stuck for a long time so I don’t want to let the fear of inconsistency hold me back anymore. I want to embrace it all. If I could talk to my younger self I’d tell her it’s all going to be okay, and it’s going to work itself out. I’ve learned that I can lean on those around me, especially my family. I don’t have to always be the one offering support, I can accept it too.

 

 

            

What is The BE Project?

Have you ever stopped to think about who or what you want to be?  Most often there is a word that drives you.  If you sit in the silence and really think about what type of person you want to be… there will be a word, sometimes more than one word, that will guide you along and push you to keep being a better version of yourself.  This photo project has become something that has touched my heart and hopefully those that have participated. I chose to shoot all of the images in black and white because I wanted the least amount of distractions.  Just the human and the word.   This project is the stories of some amazing people, their stories, and what these words mean to them.  Some have participated each of the 4 years we have done this, some are new each time.  It’s an amazing honor to follow along in their journey and document who they are becoming.
