Meet Patti – her word for the 2023 BE Project is Free

What word did you choose and why?

Free

I’ve been on a journey of discovery for the last 5 years and I just want to be free from it all. Free from trying to please everybody, free from trying to be something that I am not, free from societal expectations of what I should have, be and do. Free from my negative self talk – not living in the moment. Always searching for the “one thing” that will make me happy.

What has to change is setting myself free to be who I want to be. Some days the girl i want to be is just floating thru life and not sure of what she wants to be doing and some days she is on track and has goals. I’m just not certain of what she wants or where she’s going.

Last year I was given the gift of time and found a wonderful job. With this new year, it’s been a whole new outlook. I just want to enjoy the time I have and not stress about all of the little things. I want to be free from the expectations.

 

 

What is The BE Project?

Have you ever stopped to think about who or what you want to be?  Most often there is a word that drives you.  If you sit in the silence and really think about what type of person you want to be… there will be a word, sometimes more than one word, that will guide you along and push you to keep being a better version of yourself.  This photo project has become something that has touched my heart and hopefully those that have participated. I chose to shoot all of the images in black and white because I wanted the least amount of distractions.  Just the human and the word.   This project is the stories of some amazing people, their stories, and what these words mean to them.  Some have participated each of the 4 years we have done this, some are new each time.  It’s an amazing honor to follow along in their journey and document who they are becoming.
