The BE Project | Sara and “Still”
Every year, The BE Project invites people into my studio to pause, reflect, and choose a word that will guide the next chapter of their lives. It is not about perfection or reinvention overnight. It is about honesty. Courage. Becoming.
When Sara stepped in front of the camera, her word carried layers.
“Still.”
It is both a command and a declaration.
The BE Project exists because I believe that we are all evolving and every person deserves to see themselves as art while they are becoming the person they are meant to be.
Why She Chose “Still”
The first meaning is rooted in faith.
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Over the past year, Sara has leaned heavily into that truth, trusting that even when circumstances feel uncertain, she does not have to carry everything alone.
The second meaning is deeply personal.
She is still herself.
Authentic. Unapologetic. Loving wholeheartedly.
After years of feeling like she needed to apologize for who she is, she has decided she will no longer shrink to fit someone else’s comfort.
“I am still me, and I’m not changing that anymore.”
What She Is Working Toward This Year
Sara is stepping into greater involvement in her community and growing into leadership roles she once did not imagine for herself.
Professionally, she is expanding.
Spiritually, she is deepening.
Personally, she is becoming more solidified in her identity.
Each morning begins with coffee on the porch, sunrise in the sky, and quiet conversation with God before the day starts.
That rhythm keeps her anchored.
What Grounds Her
Her husband.
Twenty years together and he is still her safe place.
Her steady.
Her home base.
What She Is Learning About Herself
Sara shared something vulnerable.
Because she loves deeply and believes the best in people, she sometimes assumes others operate the same way.
She is learning discernment.
Learning that loving well also requires wisdom.
Photographing “Still”
In the studio, still looked steady.
A calm presence.
A woman who no longer apologizes for her heart.
Her portraits felt strong without hardness.
Confident without defensiveness.
A Final Reflection
Sara’s story reminds us that being still does not mean being stagnant.
It means being secure.
Rooted.
Unshaken in who you are.
What word would you choose for this season of your life?
What are you stepping into this year?
