The BE Project | Amber and “Fearless”
Every year, The BE Project invites people into my studio to pause, reflect, and choose a word that will guide the next chapter of their lives. It is not about perfection or reinvention overnight. It is about honesty. Courage. Becoming.
When Amber said her word, there was strength behind it.
“Fearless.”
Not because she has never felt fear.
But because she is learning not to let it run her life.
The BE Project exists because I believe that we are all evolving and every person deserves to see themselves as art while they are becoming the person they are meant to be.
Why She Chose “Fearless”
Amber recently started therapy for the first time.
Through that process, she is learning how much of her daily reactions and logical thinking are tied to her childhood.
She is recognizing patterns.
Recognizing triggers.
Recognizing where other people’s opinions have shaped decisions that were never truly hers.
Fearless, for her, means not letting outside voices dictate her life anymore.
“I know what’s best for me. I know what I want.”
This year is about trusting that.

What She Is Working Toward This Year
Amber has a clear goal.
She wants to get her GED.
She wants to go to college.
She wants to keep building a future that reflects who she is now, not who she used to be.
She also shared something powerful.
Her sobriety is her choice.
Her strength.
Her work.
There may have been help along the way, but she owns the decision.
That kind of ownership changes everything.
What Grounds Her
When things feel overwhelming, Amber reminds herself:
“I got here by myself.”
Not in isolation.
But through decisions.
Through resilience.
Through choosing growth over old habits.
That reminder steadies her.
What She Is Learning About Herself
She is learning that fear often comes from old wounds.
And that awareness gives her power.
She is not that little girl anymore.
She is the one making the decisions now.
Photographing “Fearless”
In the studio, fearless showed up as quiet strength.
Soft but steady.
A woman reclaiming her voice.
Her portraits felt brave.
Intentional.
Unapologetic.
A Final Reflection
Amber’s story reminds us that fearless does not mean never feeling afraid.
It means moving forward anyway.
What word would you choose for this season of your life?
What are you stepping into this year?
