The BE Project – In a world where you can be anything…. What will you be?

Meet Leandra – her word for the 2023 BE Project is Determined

What word did you choose and why?

Determined

This year I chose the word Determined. I have a lot of goals this year, and I’m determined to work toward them. I am scheduling my time to accommodate that work. I’m determined to spend more time with my family, and to make my way home more often. I am determined to try new things. I’m determined to accomplish my goals.

  I have so many goals that I want to accomplish this year, and I’m determined to stay focused and put in the work to accomplish those. I want to get back into running. I used to run and I loved it. I miss it and I’m willing to work for that consistency again. I’m determined to try new things, and forge relationships with new people. I’m also determined to spent more intentional time at home, with my family and with my mother, and am scheduling trips home every other month to accommodate that.

 

If you could go back and talk to a younger version of yourself, what would you say?

            If I could go back and talk to my younger self, I think I’d just remind her that being kind is the best thing you can do for others. Even your siblings. You really just never know what someone is going through, and a little kindness and thoughtfulness can truly make such a difference. 

 

 

What is The BE Project?

Have you ever stopped to think about who or what you want to be?  Most often there is a word that drives you.  If you sit in the silence and really think about what type of person you want to be… there will be a word, sometimes more than one word, that will guide you along and push you to keep being a better version of yourself.  This photo project has become something that has touched my heart and hopefully those that have participated. I chose to shoot all of the images in black and white because I wanted the least amount of distractions.  Just the human and the word.   This project is the stories of some amazing people, their stories, and what these words mean to them.  Some have participated each of the 4 years we have done this, some are new each time.  It’s an amazing honor to follow along in their journey and document who they are becoming.
